Over the last 15 years, Philip has worked within multi-disciplinary teams to create, design and ship proof-of-concept work, testable prototypes, elegant user interfaces and robust design systems.

Operating equally well in a hands-on or leadership role, he brings a considered, craft-led approach to every stage of the process, from early concept through to final execution. Philip has worked across a wide range of industries including Media & Entertainment, Lifestyle & Culture, Sport, Energy, Telecom, Web3 and AI – designing for both consumer and b2b audiences

He has held Design Lead, Head of Design and Creative Director positions at trusted product design studios including Ostmodern, Idean (now Frog), Signal Noise (part of The Economist Group) and Reaktor (New York and Amsterdam). Environments that pushed his craft forward and shaped the way he works today.

Leadership & management

Philip has had the pleasure of leading multidisciplinary teams across many complex projects, acting as the point of contact for clients, and stakeholders. He believes great work happens when the team is working collaboratively towards a shared goal.

As Design Director at Reaktor Amsterdam he led the growth of one the company's most successful design teams, making several key hires, building a team of around 13 designers and winning landmark projects. In that time he helped mentor talent and raise the bar for craft and process.

Philip oversaw strategy, design direction, deliverables, coordinating technical requirements and presenting to clients and stakeholders for clients such as QVC, D-Ford, Rovio and Adidas.

Moments, context, form

The sticky middle. Brand or product design. Moments. Form. Context. Products work hard, utilitarian, functional, serve a purpose. Memorable product experiences do that, and more. Moments: A window of opportunity within the UX where a person feels something. Pick 3 to work with, be sensitive. Context: Matched moments with the right context. Form: Think about surface area, timing and delivery. The best products combine, moments, form and context. Add emotion to the functional. Iterate.

Founding Designer

Proactive and reactive. Present a vision of the future, have tomorrow planned. React to change, market, customer, external factors. Do just enough work to move forward. Too little is vague and scope drifts, too much is waste and creates noise. Create space to think & zoom out. Listen to signals, be in the room to pick them up. Your sales people are frontline researchers. Your soft skills are also hard skills. Navigating change, fostering creativity and managing expectation is by design. Prototype. Prototype. Prototype.
