The Zen visual identity was designed to work at the intersection of entertainment, streetwear, social and retail.
The playful angles of the Z became the device for the wider visual language.



Video was an important part of the Zen experience.
Playback became a "shop-able" experience, combining entertainment and ecommerce. (This was before TikTok & Reels)

Discovery focuses on the story of each sneaker.
For launch the team selected 20 pairs of tier 1 sneakers. Each PDP was editorially curated to create a shopping experience like no other.


"Z" sketches, brand material and UI experiments.
The result of the Zen project enabled Zappos! to engage with new a audience demographic and approach Nike and Adidas for their tier 1 sneakers, something they struggled to do previously.
